Richard (Dick) Boushey, 68, died March 25.

He was born Feb. 19, 1944, in Oakland, Calif., to George Washington Boushey and Alma Boushey. He was the oldest of two children and grew up in Oakland before moving to the Northwest in 1981.

As a child, Dick learned to play the trombone and enjoyed it very much. While he was in the Navy for five years, he got the opportunity to play the trombone in live blues bands and loved every minute of it. Dick chose to become a journeyman electrician for his career after the Navy. He remained in the city until his career led him to a job at the BLM here in Burns in 1981.

Dick met his wife, Mary, in Burns in 1984, and they were married Aug. 31, 1985, in Reno, Nev.

His career took him and his family to many places, he took a promotion to Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico and another to Yosemite National Park in California, then on to Bend before settling back in Burns in 1995. He continued to work in the electrical field independently until retiring.

Dick enjoyed his life to say the least. Raising his son, Rick, and taking care of his family are what was important to him. His biggest joy was spending time doing anything with his family; it didn’t matter what. Dick not only had a great love for his family, but he also had a great love for his dogs. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting and all the good times that come along with being outside with friends and family.

Dick was a very friendly man and kind to everyone that he met. He was a man full of wisdom and knowledge and was always on the search for more. He was a loving father and grandfather, a friend to everyone and just a down-home guy. He loved Harney County and knew that he would settle here.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary; son, Richard Boushey Jr. and wife Kelsha of Burns; granddaughter, Lilyana Boushey; niece and nephew Linda Ortega and Scott Boushey of California; stepchildren, Roberta Hammon, Deanna McVay and Bob Daniels Jr. and their families, including seven grandchildren; and many other family members in the Burns area.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Jerry.

Funeral services were held April 7 at LaFollette’s Chapel.
