IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Honor
Jane (Opie) Maupin
July 24, 1939 – January 27, 2026
Memorial Service
On Tuesday, January 27th, 2026, Mary Honor Jane (Opie) Maupin passed away peacefully at Vista Manor, Wilbur WA. Mary was the last surviving sibling of twelve. At the age of 7, Mary's mother, Gertrude (Thompson) Opie passed away (her father Thomas Henry Opie, had passed in 1943, 2 years prior). Mary and her sister Dorothy were then passed from relative to relative, as times were tough, finally arriving in Venator, Oregon. She attended and graduated Crane High School, and had a brief attendance, at The College of Idaho. On May 24th, 1958, she married Charles Robert (Bud) Maupin. Mary and Bud had four children: Kathryn L. White, (Kelly White) West End, NC, Ben A Maupin (Wendy+, Susan) Iola, WI., Cynthia L Altheide, (John Altheide), Medical Lake WA., and Robert Lee Maupin (Gwen), Kempner, TX. The family spent a few years ranching, and then back to being a military family and travelling the world. A few years after retirement to Harney County, Bud (April of 1999) passed away. Mary then moved closer to Cindy outside Seattle. Mary, in retirement, made quilts for all the children, spouses and grandchildren over the years. It is easier to count heads than quilts. 10 Grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. Services and interment will be in Burn's Oregon at La Follette's Chapel, April 18. 2pm, graveside interment, and reception to follow. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers in Mary's name to The General & Mrs. Curtis LeMay Foundation. The Foundation does so much for Air Force widows-Mary was number 13 from the program inception.
