Joyce Elene Yarber Sahlberg, age 89, of Burns, Oregon, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Joyce was born on July 24, 1937, in Burns, Oregon, to William and Violet Yarber. She was a loving sister to Chester, Wilma, Patsy, and Billy, and she cherished that bond with her siblings throughout her life. She spent most of her life rooted in the community she loved, where she built lasting friendships and cherished the simple joys of everyday life. She was a member of The Pioneer Presbyterian Church, The Harney County Pioneer Association, The Senior Center, The Old Time Fiddlers, The High Desert fiddlers, The American Legion, Harney County Historical Society, and the Burns Lions club.
Joyce was the beloved wife of George Sahlberg, whom she married later in life. Together they shared many meaningful years filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories.
She was the loving mother of three children: Laura, Larry, and Lance, whom she raised with devotion and care. Her family continued to grow with grandchildren Jason, Jaime, Jacob, Danny, Makayla, Angela, Seth, Austin, and Shania, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who brought her endless pride and happiness.
Joyce found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved working crossword puzzles, playing cribbage, and spending time visiting with friends and family. Above all else, she treasured her role as Grandma. Nothing made her happier than spoiling her grandchildren, creating memories they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for her family were the hallmarks of her life.
Joyce will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her welcoming smile, and the love she freely gave to those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of family, laughter, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, George Sahlberg; her children, Laura-(David) Cullens, Larry Ryder; her grandchildren, Jason-(Kelly)Cullens, Jaime Delzotti, Jacob Ryder, Danny-(Sammantha) Grinnell, Makayla-(James) Heath, Angela-(Beau) Matkowski, Seth-(Bri) Ryder, Austin-(Ashley) Ryder, Shania Ryder-(fiancé Wyatt Langenfeld); many great-grandchildren; her siblings Wilma Whitman, Patsy-(Dick) Baird; and many extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents William (Bill) and Violet (Vi) Yarber, her oldest brother Chester, her youngest brother Billy, and her beloved son Lance, and with all, she carried them in her heart always.
Joyce’s family takes comfort in knowing that while she will be deeply missed, her love and the memories she created will remain with them throughout life.
