James Anthony Zennie, Jr. (Jim) passed on Sept. 18, 2025, at 94 years old. Jim was born on March 31, 1931, in Superior, Wis., to parents James Zennie (Zawistowski) and Blanche McCavic. Jim was the 3rd of four children, joining Theodore (Ted), Dolores (Dodie), and Jackie. Jim grew up on the ore docks of Superior, and in the woods of Harney County. He loved to hunt and fish and was involved in many shenanigans.
Jim graduated from Burns Union High School in 1949 and joined the Coast Guard. Jim served as a seaman in the US Coast Guard, being honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1954. He later served as a Merchant Marine and saw many ports of call.
Jim married Beverly Babovich on May 27, 1961. To this union was born on Aug. 8, 1962 James Zennie (Jimmy). In May of 1965, Jim joined Local 705 International Brotherhood of Teamsters, driving truck for Edward Hines in Chicago, Ill. In 1983, Beverly died of cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Blanche; wife, Beverly; siblings: Ted and Dodie. Left to mourn his passing are Jim and Shana Withee; step-children, Mariam, Marielle and Raquel Moran, the extended Withee family, and many nieces and nephews.
