IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald Loren
Harris
December 14, 1934 – April 27, 2025
Jerry passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
He was born here in Burns, on Dec. 14, 1934, to parents, William and Katie Harris. He graduated from Burns Union High School in 1953. He then served four active years of service and four years in reserve in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Dixon, on March 29, 1955, eventually settling here in the Burns/Hines area and raising their four children, Marty (Twila), Connie (Randy), Randy, Rick (Michelle). Thus came seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; two brothers, Buster and Bud; and his parents, William, Katie, and stepfather, Frank Wheeler. He is survived locally by one brother, Pat Wheeler.
After his military service, Jerry was a long-time employee at Edward Hines Lumber Company until its closing, then was employed by the Harney County School District until his retirement. He was also active in the Elks and their charities, enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball, and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends.
