Eugene "Gene" Timms, 81 died on Monday, April 21, 2014 at his home.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m with a reception to follow after the service.  Donations in his memory can be made to the Harney County Kids Club in care of LaFollette's Chapel, PO Box 488; Burns, Oregon 97720. Gene was born in Burns on May 16, 1932 to Morgan and Dot Timms. Eugene married his lifelong best friend, Edna Evans, in 1953. "Gene" Timms was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He inspired his family to be active community members and devoted much of his life to helping others. His family and friends will always remember his enthusiasm for life and boisterous sense of humor. Eugene graduated from Burns Union High School in 1950 then proceeded to Willamette University earning a bachelors in business. Upon graduating from Willamette University, Gene served in the military. After serving his country Eugene returned to his family business in Burns, Alpine Creamery. Eugene was a civic leader who served in the Oregon senate for 22 years. He was passionate about serving Eastern Oregon and was instrumental in working towards improvement of rural hospitals as well as creating opportunities for his district. Eugene Timms is survived by his wife Edna Timms of Burns; son, Tobi Timms, of Bend; daughter, Trina Denson of Portland; four grandchildren, Shelby, Courtney, Justin, and Jackson.
