Chauncey Farrell Bowden. Sr passed from Earth to Heaven on Sept 30, 2026, at the age of 87 years old, where he was greeted by those loved ones who had passed before. Chan, as he was known, was born on Aug 14th, 1939, in Roana, Montana to William Chauncey Bowden Sr, and Minnie Alice Long Bowden Carlson. Chan’s dad died when he was only 2 months old. Chan was predeceased by his parents, William & Alice Bowden, Three brothers, William Chauncey Jr, Leslie and Duane. His sister Williana, Daughter Cindy Wolff and great grandson Oscar. His mother and father-in-law, Merton & Esther Ward of Edmunds, Maine. Chan survived by his soul mate of 43 years, Marjorie Ward, Moores Bowden. They were married 29 of November 1982 in Astoria, Oregon. Chan also survived by his children, Farrell (Debbie) Bowden, West Richland Washington, David & (Karen) Bowden, Gaston Oregon, Myssi (Darrin) Sandstrom, Lynden Washington, Amanda (Joe) York of Henderson Nevada, Jamie (Michael) Cox of Vineyard Utah. Stepchildren, Matthew (Sam) Moores of Burns, Oregon, Rachel Gifford of Oregon City, Oregon. Chan is survived by his brother Lee (Donna) Carlson, Hermiston Oregon, Rita & (Ron) Crompton of Layfette Oregon, and Ida (Vern) Peterson Seattle, Washington. Numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Chan was in the National Guard for eleven and a half years. He loved his military service as a cook. He worked several jobs in his life, but cooking was a favorite. He was Food Service Director for Marsing Job Corp in Idaho, Mt Hood Job Corp, Mt Hood, Oregon and Tongue Point Job Corp in Astoria, Oregon. 1984 he and Margie moved from Astoria to Banks, Oregon where he got into the firewood business. He provided firewood to customers and two state parks for nine years. 1993 they moved back to Maine for four years. He worked in construction during that time. 1997 they moved to Stanfield, Echo area of Oregon. He worked for a local rancher as the building maintenance man. His favorite time of the year was the annual cattle drive, where he was the cook. 2012 he and Margie retired and moved to the Oregon Coast, where he did his next favorite pastime, fishing. 2014 Chan & Margie moved to Burns, Oregon where he continued fishing and cutting firewood for customers. During this time, he also raised leppy calves for Roaring Springs Ranch. 2023 Chan health declined and he had to give up the firewood business, but not the fishing. He was a hard worker all his life and slowing down was hard for him. Chan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A service will be held on October 24th at 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Hines, Oregon. Buriel will be in the summer of 2026 in Edmunds, Maine at the family lot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doernbecher Children Hospital, Portland, Oregon.
