Murrel William Peasley, 81, died Jan. 1 at Harney District Hospital surrounded by his family.

Murrel was born May 26, 1931 in Erhard, Minn. to William “Bill” Peasley and Nettie Helgeson Peasley. He grew up near Erhard and helped on the family farm.

He was drafted during the Korean War and served in the Army. He finished his service in 1954 and returned to Erhard. He married Jenevieve “Idella” Toso Jan. 15, 1955 at the First English Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, Minn.

The couple farmed near Erhard, and Murrel worked at several additional jobs during that time. Five of his six children were born in Minnesota.

In the summer of 1966, he took his family on a vacation to Burns to visit his brother, Carroll, who was working for Edward Hines Lumber Company. The wages there were better than farming and working at a fertilizer plant, so, upon returning to Minnesota, the couple decided to move to Burns for five years and work at the mill. They sold everything on the farm, packed up their family and the dog, and moved to Burns in a 1962 Ford pickup. He then went to work for Edward Hines in the plywood plant.

The couple had their sixth child in 1972 and remained in Burns for more than46 years.

Murrel retired from Snow Mt. Pine in 1990 and remained in Burns until his death.

He enjoyed being with friends and family. He was known for his famous cookies and his great sense of humor. His great loves in life were his family, horses, bull riding and country music.

He is survived by his wife, Idella; children, Linda Dobson (Duane), Kevin Peasley (Julie), Wade Peasley (Meloney), Brenda Schouviller (Mark), and Teresa Glerup (Jake). His legacy continues with 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Clarence Peasley, Charlie Peasley (Eileen), and Carroll Peasley all of Erhard, Minn., and Darrell Peasley (Linda) of Burns; sister, Violet Emery of Erhard, Minn.; sister-in-law, Patricia Peasley of Glenrock, Wyo.; brother-in-law, Kenneth Toso (Judy) of Fergus Falls, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Skeet; sisters, Adeline and Betty; brothers-in-law, Harvey Mostue, John Bolstad, Lloyd Emery and Ivan Toso.

Contributions in Murrel’s name can be sent to the Burns Ambulance Fund and/or the Peace Lutheran Church of Burns.
