Joshua James Shepherd, 33, of Burns, Oregon died in a tragic car accident on May 18, 2014, on Highway 20 just east of the Santiam Summit in Jefferson County.

Joshua was born on November 29, 1980, in Burns, Oregon to Jim and Elia Shepherd. He was raised in Riley, Oregon on the South Silver Creek Ranch where he attended Suntex Elementary, a one-room school house. He remained at this school through the sixth-grade with his beloved sister Janine and other children from the ranching community.

Josh and his family later moved to Burns, Oregon where he attended Burns High School and met his high school sweetheart, Jennifer Wagner. In 1998, he graduated from Burns High School and went on to Oregon State University where he received a degree in Agricultural Resource Economics. Josh was proud to graduate as a fourth generation OSU grad in 2003/2004.

On August 25, 2008, he married the love of his life, Jennifer, and the couple resided in Mt. Angel, Oregon. On February 3, 2010, they welcomed their wonderful son, Liam James, and not long after, on September 17, 2012, they were blessed with their beautiful daughter, Penelope Paige. As a family, they enjoyed spending time together outside playing, gardening and being part of their close knit neighborhood.

Josh worked for Kraemer Nursery Inc. in Silverton, where he loved the challenges of developing systems of supply chain management. His success and achievements at work were a source of fulfillment and pride for Josh and his family.

Josh will forever be remembered as a fun-loving, witty and hard-working son, father, husband and brother.  Josh and Jen cherished their children, family, friends and the communities of Harney County and Mt. Angel/Silverton. Joshua is survived by his wife, Jennifer and their children, Liam (4) and Penelope (1); his parent's Jim and Elia Shepherd of Burns, OR, sister, Janine Simms of Phoenix, AZ.

A service for Josh will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Hines on May 31, 2014 at 11:00 am with a luncheon to follow. LaFollette's Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements and a Memorial Services will be held in Silverton, OR at a date to be determined.

Jim, Elia, Janine and Jen; Words just can't begin to say what my heart is feeling. I'm so sorry you are living this nightmare. My guts ache for you and what you are going through and will be for months to come. Allow yourselves to feel the memories and love that is Josh. Breath in and relish each moment when he comes to you in a breath, a song, a bale of hay, a rainbow, a jumping fish, a bleat of a lamb, a familiar smell or a laugh... while it doesn't make it any easier, you all are loved by so many and 1000's of prayers are being said daily to lift you up. love you, cyndy

Dearest Jim and Elias, My thoughts and prayers are with you daily. No one should have to bury one of their children. I am so very sorry for the loss of your dear son. Not having had the chance to know him, I can easily see from everything I've read about him that he left a legacy of love, pride, and amazing ethics which all came from his wonderful family. His clear love for his wife and children will bring comfort and peace to each of you knowing you taught him all of these amazing virtues, and he listened and took in each one as part of who he became. I will continue to pray for your comfort and peace as you go thru this difficult peace. Love and blessings to each of you and for a speedy recovery from injuries for Joshs' wife. Love to you both

Jim, Elia, & Janine-
Parents never expect to outlive their children, and surely there is no loss that is sadder or more difficult to understand. Know that those who care about you are thinking of you all. Your strength as a family is being tested and we know that you all feel that you are breaking -- but love, laughter, and wit will see you each through this difficult time. You will be able to think of Josh and see him in his children and continue to celebrate the beauty that he brought to all our lives.
With abiding faith in His love, the Grahams
